Glass Windows and Plant Shelf

Wednesday August 15

When I drove up Cheviot Hills Lane to our home this evening no big changes jumped out.  However, close inspection showed a big change - the window spaces were filled with real glass windows!  And the window fan had been cut for the front north window.  The carpenters also framed in the plant shelf in the great room, framed in the master bath tub, and applied black tar paper to the back roof. 

I met with Bill Willoughby yesterday and today and have finally settled on our front door and back door which he ordered.  We're working on the plumbing fixture choices and light fixture choices.....it's really time consuming but fun.

Bill predicts the plumbers will be in tomorrow to start their rough in and the mechanical guys will be out on Friday to start their work.

Tuesday August 14

The front profile of our home did not change from yesterday but the back changed a lot.  The roof on the back of our home was completed.  The braces (anchors) were mostly removed from inside and the floor was swept clean.  One minor change was made to the laundry room door (from regular swinging door to a pocket door).

Roofline

Friday, August 10 through Monday August 13

Most of the roofline was completed on Friday.  This includes the trusses and the small gable over the window at the front of the house...the window to my sewing room.  The carpenters started to put up the plywood on the roof.  There are many many anchor boards throughout the structure keeping it straight and true.  Bill assured us the walls will be straight - I'm all for straight walls, level floors and countertops, and doors that close.

Early afternoon today I had a meeting with Bill Willoughby and we took a walk through the contruction site.  The windows have arrived - this is the dining room window which faces the street.

Ribs and Gables

Thursday August 9

We had thunderstorms and rain early this morning but thankfully it cleared up allowing the carpenters to continue working on the trusses and roof.  I was thrilled to pull up in front of the house and see a roof on top!  The profile of the home is becoming evident and it looks great!

Trusses

Today's progress included the delivery of trusses which are the bones/framework/spine for the roof.  The carpenters finished their work on the outside of our home.  I also had a productive meeting with Bill Willoughby about potential changes, the front door, and other details.  I visited the site twice today - morning and late afternoon.

I visited the work site early morning and later afternoon and took pictures both times.  The progress made during that one day was amazing.

The Room Identity

Monday, August 6 dawned clear and cool.  One of those lovely Ohio days with deep blue skies, soft breezes from the north, and bright sunshine.  A great day to work outside and it seems our framers agreed!  My visit today was around 6:00 P.M.  All the outside walls are up, the garage is framed, and most of the rooms are easily identifiable.  Most of the inside walls are also there with the exception of laundry room and master closet.

What did I say about blue skies!  This is front of our home - the northwest corner which is the sewing room.  The front door and front porch are evident in the center.
