Garage Doors and Painters have arrived

Wednesday through Friday September 19 to 21

The drywall finishers continued to make flawless walls for the painters to paint.  They finished up on Friday.  We chose the ceiling texture which will be done by a different crew - referred by all as "the boys."  They may be in this week-end to texture the ceiling.

Dayton Door Sales came on Wednesday to install the garage doors and openers.  They are perfect.

Last but definitely not least - the paint crew arrived to start caulking and painting outside areas.

Clean Bricks

Tuesday September 18, 2012

The drywall finishers finished taping and put on first coat of "mud."  The walls and corners look fabulous - what an amazing job!  They'll be back tomorrow to apply a second coat.

The brick cleaners were working most of the day and finished up around 5 late this afternoon.  The house had a facial! - looks fabulous.

Cleaned south side.  The brick is beautiful.
Street view - the guys were still cleaning late this afternoon.

Bull nose corners

Thursday and Friday, September 13, 14

The "hangers" finished up on Wednesday and the "finishers" came in on Thursday to pretty up the drywall.  They finished the area around the windows, glued on metal "corner beads" to each outside corner, and started taping the seams.

The brick layers finished the back nook, windows, and other detail areas.

A Brick Ranch

Wednesday September 12, 2012

The brick work is in the home stretch.  They finished the bricked gable over the two car garage and moved around back to the kitchen nook.  The nook and the window sills will be finished tomorrow while brick cleaners will be on site cleaning the bricks.  I continue to be so pleased with the brick choice and the fabulous job done by the crew.

The drywall hangers finished up today - the mess they left will be cleaned up tomorrow morning and the drywall "finishers" will come in the pretty it up.

2378 Cheviot Hills Lane

September 11, 2012

Today is a Tuesday - the sky was clear blue and cool - so much like the Tuesday 11 years ago when our nation was attacked.  I meant to take a picture of the flags flying at half mast today but didn't.  Every flag I saw today reminded me of that day.....the day that is a book end to an era and a door opening on a new one.

Lamont and his crew were at work this morning as they always are - dependable is the word to describe them.  They placed our house number today and worked on most of the gable above the garage.  The drywall hangers finished most of the inside of the house and some of the garage.

Brick work done by Sue

Monday, September 10, 2012

This morning I had a productive meeting with our builder, Bill Willoughby.  Have I mentioned how great he is.  Bill defines "custom builder" - you want that changed, ok - we can do this, or that, or that other thing.  We worked out a few bugs and then I got to lay two bricks!  Coach Lamont patiently walked me through the process while Bill snapped the photographs showing me working for all to see - our house would take centuries to finish if I were doing the work!

The brick layers had already finished the arched window before I got there this morning.  LOVE it - double row of half bricks with the outer row out just a bit - with keystone.

Brick layers

Thursday, Sept 6

Lamont and his crew were at work again today coming early in the morning and working long hours.  Their work is top notch.  The north wall was mostly finished and they rounded the corner to start work on the west side which includes the "arched" window.  This is important as you will see.  The nook will be done last because it involves expertice due to all the corners and angles.

The drywall guys were back finishing the kitchen ceiling, greatroom ceiling, dining room tray, and starting in on the walls.

Walls

Wednesday September 5

More tropical rain was in the area today - it's very humid.  Brick layers continued their circuit around the house working on the back - skipping the nook to come back to later (somehow I knew they'd do that).  Drywall hangers came today - I was there around noon to see them putting wall board on the ceiling - made it look so easy!  When I stopped by this evening, lots of brick work was done and most of the ceilings were complete with the exception of the kitchen and greatroom.

The carpenters changed out the vent over garage #3.

Dry Wall Delivered and Staged

Tuesday September 4, 2012

We had rain over the Labor Day week-end which was perfect because we really need rain up here in Ohio and it did not interfere with any work.....since no work was completed over the week-end.  I visited this morning around 9 o'clock and the insulation had already been inspected.  The carpenters were continuing their circuit around the house putting up siding while the brick layers worked on the opposite side of the house.

When I visited this evening, there were huge stacks of dry wall placed strategically thoughout the inside of the home.  Hopefully, the dry wall hangers will come tomorrow and get started.  :)  hmmmm - as I understand, brick layers and dry wall hangers don't "play well together" - we'll see how that goes.
